When people thing Westminster, they typically think of the epic palace located within central London, but not many know about New Westminster. This absence of knowledge is just one of the many things that makes this quaint city so livable. Known as an incredibly important and historic city to British Columbia, the newborn colony was founded in 1858, giving way to a variety of museums, parks, and downtown nightlife.

New Westminster Museums

For a look at some unique documents and books that correlate to the founding of New Westminster, you can check out the scenic New Westminster Museum & Archives, which is located along the water’s edge of the Fraser River near downtown. Another beautiful exhibit that’s always going through a cycle of historic pieces is The Museum of the Royal Westminster Regiment Historical Society. Although the facility is a mouthful, there are plenty of historic artifacts on the infantry regiment of the Canadian Army to justify.

New Westminster Parks & Recreation

Whether you’re interested in a simple park for playing ball or are more interested in looking out at the adorned Fraser River, there are a variety of parks, culture and recreational spots to have fun in the city. Because New Westminster is so modestly populated (a little over 60,000), the parks are also modest. There are several intimate baseball diamonds scattered around the city, one of the most popular along downtown’s 10th street, making downtown a great place to grow up. Westminster Pier is another great place designed perfectly for waterside picnics or a relaxing place to read and watch the sunset.

For those intending to move to New Westminster, you’ll be pleased to find out there are a variety of fun things to do, from the exuberant nightlife to the many delicious restaurants.
